Mehbooba, Sajad Lone fight to take credit for Governor's decision | Both leaders eulogize themselves for no good, people laugh over such theatrics | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 24: Soon after the news that the government has ordered reservation for the Pahari community in Jammu and Kashmir was out, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and Sajad Lone fight in open to claim credit for Governor's decision. Governor, Satya Pal Malik on Thursday give his assent to the Jammu & Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2014, providing reservation to the persons belonging to Pahari community, clan or tribe having distinct cultural, ethnic and linguistic identity, in the Government jobs. The amendment provides for addition of a separate category of the persons belonging to Pahari community, clan or tribe having distinct, cultural, ethnic and linguistic identity among the Socially and Educationally Backward classes (other than Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes), However, soon after the news came out, the two leaders of different political parties came out and claimed that they actually should be credited for the decision. According to the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Loned PC Chief Sajad Lone worked hard for revival of the bill which was put into cold storage. "As minister in-charge Social Welfare, Lone introduced the bill in the Assembly and got it passed with support from all MLAs," said the party spokesman and added that Sajad Gani Lone, Imran Raza Ansari and Raja Aijaz Ali had also recently meet Governor to seek his assent for the bill. Meanwhile, the PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti too didn't shy away from claiming the limelight. She issued a separate statement in which she claimed that it was her party in government that took the actual measure for it. Mehbooba congratulated the Pahari community for being granted the reservation, stating that the decision was taken by the PDP led government last year in February and that she is thankful to the Governor for giving his assent to that. She said that the PDP while being in the government had taken itself into account the social status of the Pahari community and always felt concerned about the problems faced by the educated youth from among them, more particularly in the back ground of their economic condition, social environment and lack of facilities to come up to the standards of competition of the times. Interestingly, other political groups are yet to jump into the chorus and seek credit for what Governor administrative has done. "The fact is that the political parties who are out of the power now have nothing to do with what the governor has done at present. The veracity of their statements could be easily questioned as it was their government for the period of 3 years in the state and when they didn't take the measure during that time, how could they lay claim on it now when they are out of power since June last year," says a senior official. He added that it was Governor Satya Pal Malik who understood the hardships being faced by the community and in a bid to provide the people relief that such a historic decision was taken. |
