No mediation by any third country for resolving Kashmir issue | | | The UN has again harped on the need for a dia-logue between India and Pakistan on Friday hoped that India and Pakistan that could resolve their issues. The UN chief said he had been offering his "good offices in relation to the dialogue between the two countries and stated that by now there has been no success. Guterres was speaking to reporters at the UN headquarters in New York. "I hope that the importance of both India and Pakistan is such in international affairs, I hope that the two countries will be able to engage in a meaningful dialogue," he said. The UN chief was responding to a question on his repeated urging of dialogue between the two South Asian neighbours. "In relation to the human rights situation, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has produced recently a very detailed report. So, the UN has clearly done its job in that regard," Guterres said to a question by a Pakistan journalist on the situation in Kashmir. Well India is prepared and willing to open he doors of dialogue with Pakistan and discuss everything under the sun. But despite the fact that willingness on the part of India is not being responded to by Islamabad. The UN Chief should have asked Pakistan to stop resorting to ceasefire violations in which the soldiers and the civilians get killed. In this connection India had lid down some preconditions for Islamabad to encourage the process of dialogue. India wanted first of all Pakistan end export of terror on the premise that talks and terror cannot coexist. But Pakistan has so far continued to export terror to India, especially to Jammu and Kashmir. That stops India from the resumption of channels of talks. India has conveyed to the world that since the issues, connected with India and Pakistan, are bilateral there is no room for mediation by the third country, including the UN. Hence the matter is stuck and it may take ages to resolve various issues. It depends on Pakistan to see whether the preconditions laid down by India are genuine for promoting peace. |
