While addressing the meeting at Vijaypur,Samba former Minister and DCC president Samba, Manjit Singh appreciated the move of Governor for granting reservation to people living along IB at par with LoC. This is a welcome step however, he appealed the Governor that 3% reservation granted to border people is meagre as border area is densily populated, therefore the percentage of reservation should be enhanced from 3% to 10 %. IB covers a population of around three lakh spread over 350 villages in Jammu division. This will enable the maximum border population to derive the benefits of reservation. "Shall meet the long-standing demand of the people residing in areas adjoining IB for their overall socio-economic and educational development." Singh said. He further said that the border area generally remains tense due to unprovoked firing of the Pakistan. Therefore these people remain dependent on employment for their bread and butter. Singh said that unemployment percentage of the youth of border area is being increased day by day and thus the situation is becoming alarming. He urged Hon'ble Governor to revisit the recent order Granting 3% quota to people living on IB. Manjeet Singh said that Governor should also accept long pending demand of five marla plots for the border residents putting up near International Border. He said that the students of these areas have been badly affected due to Pak shelling as they could not continue studies in view of heavy shelling and repeated migration towards safer places. |
