3 days on, Governor 'forgets' to pay tributes to Indian Air Force martyrs | | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 1: Even as six Indian Air Force officers were killed in a tragic helicopter crash in Kashmir on February 27, three days have passed but the Governor, SP Malik is seemingly yet to pay tributes to the martyrs. While the country lost six brave-hearts and a civilian in the air tragedy in central Kashmir's Budgam on the day when the India Pakistan hostilities were at its peak, the Governor didn't allegedly "find time to pay homage to the martyrs since." Official sources said no official handout was released from Raj Bhawan here with regard to the air tragedy to condole the deaths nor any such tweet was made by the Governor. Officials said it was mandatory for the Governor to have formally paid homage to the martyrs. "He should have attended a wreath laying ceremony or atleast should have condoled the demise through a formal handout, because the tragedy had taken place in his state," said some officers. Officials said on the fateful day the Governor was busy with some inauguration programs in the Finance department. As per official handout he launched "State Infrastructure Monitoring System-SIMS the official Portal developed by the Finance Department in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for management, monitoring, information and payment system of all Infrastructure Projects being funded through the Jammu Kashmir Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (JKIDFC)." "Governor congratulated the Finance Department for taking this significant step towards e-Governance besides ensuring transparency and accountability in Government functioning. He observed that the portal will help in streamlining the monitoring and management of all Infrastructure Projects in the State that have been funded through the innovative mechanism adopted by the JKIDFC," the handout had said. Earlier in the day, six Air Force officers and a civilian were killed after an Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper crashed. The crash had taken place in the backdrop of heavy shelling and firing from across the border on a day IAF fighter jets crossed the Line of Control and destroyed a vast terror camp within Pakistan in a pre-dawn strike in Balakote area. Soon after the crash, airports in Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar and Leh - close to the border with Pakistan - were shut temporarily. All airspace at Jammu, Srinagar and Leh, close to the border with Pakistan, were also shut down The helicopter, a Russian made Mi-17, crashed in an open field near Garend Kalaan village in Budgam at 10.05 am. Despite repeated attempts the Governor or his Raj Bhawan officials were not available for comments. |
