Ban on Jammat, boost for NC in elections! | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 3: The ban on Jamaat E Islami is likely to give a boost to the National Conference during the much-awaited polls in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Given the fact that the Jamaat had been allegedly supporting Peoples Democratic Party in the valley "to defeat the NC" during the previous elections, the ban can benefit the Abdullahs. Former Chief Minister and NC President Omar Abdullah sudden "soft stand" towards New Delhi conveys that the NC is happy with the ban on Jamaat and looks ahead to gain from it in the elections for the parliament and the state Assembly. On March 1, no sooner the news broke about the ban on Jamaat, Omar Abdullah said nobody should hurry up in making a reaction. "We aren't playing 'fastest finger first' here. It's important for responsible people to fully understand what the cabinet order means for J&K before we rush in to comment. Mistakes now can have grave consequences," Omar had tweeted. A senior politician said Omar's tweet was enough to understand his reaction to the development that he was "satisfied with the development." |
