Kathua, April 7: Senior Congress leader and former Member Parliament Dr. Karan Singh today appealed masses to beware of anti-people and anti-secular policies of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). He said this while addressing several public meetings held at Kathua and Hiranagar in support of Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat, to garner support for Dogra scion Vikramaditya Singh. At Hiranagar Senior Congress leader and former MP Dr Karan Singh, Congress leader Ex-MLC Subash Gupta, Ex-MLA Girdhari Lal Chalotra, and Ex-MLA Prem lal addressed the gathering. Dr Karan Singh while seeking votes for Vikramaditya Singh, said that he has contested and won the Udhampur parliamentary seat four times with the support of local people. Taking a dig at BJP led government Dr Karan Singh said that apart from dividing the national on communal lines, BJP has done nothing for the well being of people as well as their development. "BJP government has failed to provide any relief to the border firing affected people. BJP leaders are only creating controversies and spread hatred between different regions and sections of the state, to remain in power", Dr. Singh said, adding that at the time of forming coalition government in state, BJP had claimed that this coalition would bring the regions closure and bring about massive financial support from the centre but it has miserably failed on both these fronts as a result people of three regions are suffering. Terming the policies of BJP as anti-people and anti-secular, Dr. Singh said that BJP divided the society for personal gains but Congress believed in unity of all castes, creed, and colours of society and taking all the communities together for the development of the country. He further said BJP is trying to harness votes in the name of surgical strikes but it was Iron Lady Smt. Indira Gandhi, who succeeded in making the very first surgical strike when Bangladesh came into existence and forced Pakistan to surrender. Ex-MLC Subash Gupta in his address, while highlighting the Congress manifesto said that under proposed 'NYAY' scheme, Rs. 72,000/year will be transferred to the poorest 20 per cent house-holds in the country. Subash Gupta highlighting other points said that Congress had pledged to make jobs its first priority, both in the public and private sector. It has promised to fill all 4 lakh central government vacancies before March 2020 and to persuade state governments to fill their 20 lakh vacancies. As far as farmers concerns Congress says it will present a separate 'Kissan Budget' every year. Also the party has promised to bring a permanent National Commission on Agricultural Development and Planning. A large number of local people led by Bharti Sharma, Ajit Chander, Ramesh Kundal, Praveen Bhagat, B L Kandley, Dr Omkar Nath, Yugal Bali, Vinay Sharma, Rajeev Gupta, Parveena Devi, Ramesh Verma, and many other dedicated workers of Congress were present on the occasion. |
