Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 7: The people living in various areas of the mountainous Chenab valley face lot of problems in terms of non availability of infrastructure, better health care and education, but poor road connectivity makes their life very difficult.
The people of Kuntwara & Machail area were forced to drag electric transformers for several kilometers to get it installed in the villages. Early Times got the visuals of poor condition of 10 KM road from Chalasoo-Tatani village in Saroor area of Kishtwar District that mocks at the authorities.
The locals informed that the road was sanctioned under PMGSY in 2010 and by 2015 the earth work on this road was completed while this road witnessed no work during the year 2016-17 and mid 2018.
In May 2018 the contract related to metal, shingle and blacktopping was allotted to Srinagar based contractor group "Kasana brothers" who further Sublet it to some local contractor.
The locals said that though the contractor should have finished the allotted contract by the end of 2018 itself, but only around 15-20% work has so far been executed as a result of which the people travelling on this road are suffering due to contractors apathy.
The locals informed that "Kasana Brothers" also manged to get the contract for other roads as well including that of Drabshala to Bugrana, 15 KM road from Thathri-Kilotran to Morie via Balgaran 15 KM, Kandhi-Ohlie road phase 2nd for Kuntwara wherein only 1.5 KM work has been executed so far beside Rs 26 Crore road project on Dangdoru-Dachhan road is also given to them.
The people called upon the Governor, PMGSY, R&B and Divisional Administration to review the progress of various roads under execution in the Kishtwar and Doda District through various contractors and called for fixing the responsibility of those who fail to complete the work on time.
