Majority boycotted, few voted | | | Wajahat Shabir

Srinagar, Apr 18: Deserted roads, closed shops and adults playing cricket summed up the parliament election in Downtown Srinagar. Majority of residents residing in Downtown preferred to remain inside home, while few chose to vote in the parliament election in Srinagar. Roads leading to downtown were deserted, children's were seen playing cricket in the middle of the road, while security forces where seen guarding the area for law and order situation. Children's maintain distance from the security forces in the downtown. One of the children's, Adil in 20's said that I am not much concerned about who is contesting elections and who is in the campaigning. He added, "All we need is a peace and love. We have been fed up with the atrocities and conflict. And, those who have voted must answer whether their vote is going to change narrative of Kashmir or not". There were many children's like Adil who were unmoved by the parliament as they think that it would not change anything in the chapter of Kashmir. There were few areas where people from all walk of life where votes were casted in good numbers. In the hilly area of Faker Gujri elders in large numbers were seen casting votes. Zuni, who has no clue about her age said that it is our right to caste the vote we do not have basic amenities in the area. Every area we see candidates knocking on our doors and seeking votes, but nothing much has been done. Few kilometers away from Faker Gujri is Zadibal which holds Shia community, the area has history of turning out for voting in the past as well. One of the voter said "I feel that our community has been deprived from valuable things, so I have turned today to cast my vote for a better change. |
