Geelani makes Kashmir issue family affair, condemns NIA notice to son
4/19/2019 12:11:35 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 18: For the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani the Kashmir issue is fast turning out to be family affair where the family head is mainly concerned about his own family members.
The Hurriyat G Chairman has condemned the summoning of his elder elder son Dr Naeem Zaffar Geelani and the KEA chairman by the NIA apart from the seizure of the property worth millions of alleged Hawala broker Zahoor Ahmad Watali.
"These acts of coercion can in no way change the ground situation of Jammu and Kashmir," Geelani said, in a statement.
When all those who were served notice by the NIA have been appearing for questioning in the national capital, why should Geelani condemn the serving of a similar notice to his son?
This question is being asked many in Kashmir. It is pertinent to mention that Geelani's son had last time skipped to appear for questioning before the NIA and had cited some health reasons.
Geelani has been facing public criticism for such actions that show is concern towards the family in a much larger way.
During the protests in Kashmir in 2016 that lasted for around six months, Geelani asked people to resume business only after his grandson was given a job by the Jammu and Kashmir government.
In December of that year, Geelani's family had gone for allegedly a deal with the then government headed by the Peoples Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janta Party.
The PDP-BJP government had appointed Geelani's grandson Anees Ul Islam in the SKICC where many of the candidates who had applied for the post had condemned the injustice done by the government to benefit the families of the separatists.
It is pertinent to mention that since then the Hurriyat Conference G and the so called Joint Resistance Leadership has been silent on the issue.
Meanwhile sources said finding nobody skipping the notice of the NIA, Geelani's son is likely to appear before the investigation agency.
