Despite objections, surgeries done in Orthopedic OT in GMC&H | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 23: The doctors of the orthopedics department of the Government Medical College and Hospital is carrying out surgeries in infected Operation Theatre thus putting patients' lives in danger. Moreover, a few days ago the Department of Microbiology, GMC Jammu submitted a report of new Operation Theatre to the higher-ups suggesting that the OT doesn't meet the laid down standards and infections have been found but the surgeries continue unabated. Sources told Early Times that the Operation Theatre of the Orthopedics department was closed for its up-gradation and since then the surgeries have been delayed. However, after the intervention of media, the surgeries are likely to be held in another theater. " But the department of the Microbiology found that there is an infection in the OT and report submitted to the concerned higher authority," sources said. "One week has passed but no action has been taken to ensure surgeries without any risk," sources added. The sources said that the theater was closed in a hurry without making alternate arrangements. Reports said that a few doctors are coaxing patients to visit a private hospital for their surgeries where they are fleeced in the name of treatment. HOD of Microbiology department Dr Shashi Soodan was not available for comments |
