'Where is @MirwaizKashmir today. How Shameless resistance Camp is'

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 12: Even as a three-year-old girl has been raped in Bandipora area of Kashmir by Kashmiri accused of the crime, the silence of the separatists on such issues has drawn severe criticism.
Many people took to social media to vent out their criticism against the separatist leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for their silence.
"Where is @MirwaizKashmir today. How Shameless resistance Camp is that they don't have even a single word to get Rapists #Tahir_Ahmad Hanged in Bandipora brutal Rape Case.
#HangTheRapist," wrote on person on Twitter.
Even though the separatist leaders claim to be "champions of human rights in Kashmir", when it comes to the cases of crime within the Kashmiri society, they want to be silent.
"In cases of rape and incest these separatists rarely speak as they think it would bring bad name to the so called Kashmir issue, but actually their silence only exposes them further," said a woman's rights activist.
In the last few years, the cases of rape and molestation are only rising in Kashmir but the separatists want to speak only when security forces are to be cornered.
"These separatists speak about human rights only when they have to target police or other security forces and this selective condemnation exposes their true colors," said an observer.
Recently when a father was arrested by police for having raped his own daughter who committed suicide in Bandipora, the separatists had maintained silence as if nothing had happened.
It is pertinent to mention that crime against women often get downplayed in Kashmir as even the so called civil society also wants to be silent.
A senior official told Early Times that silence of people of Kashmir on crimes like rape was actually becoming a cause of more such incidents taking place.
"There is politics even in condemnations."
