Tourism has failed Kashmir

After a grim situation result militancy related incidents of violence, tourism has failed. It is not for the first time it has failed since 1989. And when Pakistan sponsored militancy took roots in Kashmir and tourists were scared to visit Kashmir and now the autumn tourist arrivals dropped to zero houseboat owners have met Governor, S.P. Malik, and apprised him of their problems which have compounded during last 28 years. The Governor listened to the demands and promised to help them the houseboat owners consider the as no mendicant the situation has changed their fortune to steel Government help.
In fact economy of people is based on tourism it is not hoteliers and houseboat owners who depend upon tourism gives money to ponywallas, to transporters and porters This way all depend on heavy arrival of tourists it sheer of religious following that Jammu and Kashmir has become safe for pilgrim tourists. Six lakh to Amarnath cave and 80 lakh per year to Vaishno Devi Shrine but since they are pilgrims they have no means for recreation tourists especially foreign tourists, from the US, the UK, France Germany and other parts of the world would visit Kashmir.
If the Government intends helping the houseboat owners what about hoteliers and transporters and traders.
Government has to dole out monetary assistance to all sections of people yes, there have losses because of thin tourists arrivals. Security officials say there are more terrorists operating in Kashmir than tourists, yes big arrivals of tourists have multiplied hotels and houseboats and guest houses. But here hotels, houseboats and guest houses have suffered because of poor arrivals of tourists. Those depending Kashmiri handicraft send their sellers to states in India where they sell, their products. The Government of India should devote several hundred crores of funds for the tourism economy state of Jammu and Kashmir. Once this is done people will forget about Article 370 and Article 35A.
