JAMMU, May 21: The Office of Jammu University Internal Complaints Committee Against Sexual Harassment (JUICCASH), University of Jammu today organized an awareness seminar on `Prevention and Eradication of Sexual Harassment at Work Place. The seminar was organized to create awareness regarding recognition of sexual harassment behaviour and ways to deflect sexual harassers, legal mechanism to file complaints and matters connected therewith among female employees of non-gazetted cadre working in the main campus of University of Jammu. Chief Guest of the seminar, Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar University of Jammu speaking on the occasion said that with improved access to education and employment, more and more women are entering the workforce every day. Harassment of any kind is a violation of women's right to gender equality, life and liberty. It creates an insecure and hostile work environment, which discourages women's participation in work, thereby adversely affecting their economic empowerment and the goal of inclusive growth. She stressed that there is even greater need to create such awareness at all levels about the law and how the women at workplaces can use it to protect themselves. Prof Neetu Andotra, Presiding officer JUICCASH, gave an overview of the status of sexual harassment at work place and about the working of JUICCASH. She said there are allegations of sexual harassment against prominent personalities from various sectors like cinema, TV, media, advertising, music etc. Citing the examples of sexual harassment from various renowned institutions etc. , stern actions have been initiated against culprits within the ambit of Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act ,2013 |
