Rs 1.6 Cr worth five Garbage Compactor vehicles procured by ULBK gather dust | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 10: Five Garbage Compactor vehicles purchased at a cost of 1.6Cr by Urban Local Bodies Kashmir some four years ago are laying dysfunctional and gathering dust in different Muncipal Committees Official sources told Early Times that the machinery was procured for scientific disposal of solid waste in Srinagar and other areas of Kashmir. Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) -one of the components of JNNURM scheme was launched for planned development of cities and towns. Sources revealed that the vehicles purchased at a cost of Rupees 1.6Cr are dysfunctional since as they developed technical snags and didn't pass demonstration tests. "Refuse Compactor section of each vehicle has developed mechanical snag and they aren't working or serving the purpose for which this costly machinery was procured," Official sources informed. They said that under the scheme, Urban Local Bodies Kashmir was supposed to developed garbage dumping sites at first but the department procured vehicles much before developing garbage sites. Insiders revealed that various complaints had already poured in the office of Director urban Local Bodies Kashmir but neither any action has been taken against neither the department has initiated any sort of inquiry. In Year 2017, then Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir Reyaz Ahmad Wani had pointed out that the vehicles aren't technically up to the mark and aren't serving the purpose," they said. Later the vehicles were sent to Municipal Committee Anantnag, MC Awantipora and MC Baramullah but all them are lying dyfunctional. |
