Jammu, July 16: In a glaring example of use of sub-standard and poor quality material for blacktopping of fresh road, local resident in video seen removing blacktopping with bare hands. According to sources a two kilometers stretch from Government High Secondary School Solki to Brevi was blacktopped 6 weeks ago, but the contractor having hands in globe with the PWD R&B officials, compromised quality. "Works on said road allotted to contractor with an amount of Rs 114 lakh, one and half month ago the road was blacktopped, however raised the issue of poor quality used the works but nobody heard us", said local and added that at the time when works were going on a work supervisor from PWD, R&B were present on duty, only work supervisor concerned Junior Engineer along with his seniors inspected the site on several occasions. "We time and again raised the issue of quality of work, but concerned department kept mum and ignored an open theft on state exchequer", said locals, and added that few days back we noticed that the black topping was apart from the surface. "Today we gathered here and captured a video and some photographs, are self explanatory, what the contractor and the R&B department has done with us", they added. Concerned JE Mehmood Ahmed when contacted said that no payment for the work has been made yet. "If quality has been compromised by the contractor, his entire payment will be withheld", he said and added that it was new road and most of time it happens, blacktopping lost its grip over surface. |
