Back to square one! | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 21: Following the visit of Editor, Early Times, Munish Gupta, to Preet Nagar locality on July 13, a large number of residents told him that the area lacks proper sanitation mainly due to the failure of the authorities concerned to ensure regular keep-up of the surroundings. The problem of unhygienic conditions prevailing in Preet Nagar was highlighted in detail in Early Times through a comprehensive reportage and pictures which then prompted the authorities to take up corrective measures albeit for just one or two days. "A safaikaramchari turned up for one or two days to collect garbage and for sweeping the streets after Mr Munish visited our locality and subsequently the Early Times published a detailed report. It was the impact of his (Munish) visit and the publication of the news in his paper that forced the authorities to wake up from deep slumber," said Surjeet Kour, who resides near Deva Palace. "However, the indifferent attitude of the authorities, it seems, is refusing to die down as the staff deputed for cleaning streets and collecting waste has once again gone missing after making appearance for few days. Trash thrown in the open is getting scattered all over but there is nobody to take care of it," she added. |
