BJP, Cong MLAs failed to deliver in Guru Nanak Nagar's Sec 12 | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 26: Blaming both BJP and Congress MLAs for the hardships they are facing, the residents of Sector 12 of Guru Nanak Nagar said that they have been reeling under acute shortage of civic amenities for last 10 years. Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times, who would be contesting upcoming assembly election from the Gandhi Nagar constituency as an independent candidate, on Friday interacted with residents of Sector 12 and listened to their civic problems. During his mass contact campaign, the residents told Munish Gupta that despite being power in more than three years, the former MLA, Kavinder Gupta did nothing for them. "Our lanes and by lanes are in a dilapidated condition. While the lanes of Sector 13 and 11 are blacktopped and we are still craving for civic amenities", said Naresh Gupta. Harmeet Singh informed Munish Gupta that the nallah flowing between the Sector no. 11 and 12 is not maintained by authority concerned properly, with the result whenever there is just 30 minute rain, the overflowing water has submerged the whole sector. The mud and sewerage garbage accumulated on the bed of lanes which creates difficulties to even walk. The drains water gushed into our houses frequently during raining season but nobody seems bothered about it. "Even the water destroyed our belonging. Few days back, the water gushed into over home and damaged our gadgets, furniture and other things. We have repeatedly asked the authority concerned either to conduct desilting of the nallah or to raise it embankment by more than 4 feet from the ground level, but they did nothing so far", said Harpreet Kour. Manpreet Kour informed that last year, Kavinder Gupta visited Sector 11 during the plantation drive and "assured us that all the promises made by him during the election would be delivered on ground." "Actually, not a single work was done during in his tenure. Our drains have been clogged, bylanes turned into manholes, streetlights lying dysfunctional and no safaiwall deputed here to collect garbage", said Amarjeet Kour. Amarjet Kour residing in just adjacent to nallah said that last night when the nallah overflowed, its water entered her house. "Safaikaramchari dumps all the garbage just in front of our gate near the nallah. We asked the local councillor for installing dustbin and streetlight here, but he gave only lip service. Foul smell emanates from the garbage; it's not only a breeding ground for deadly disease but also gives sleepless nights to us", said Jatiender Pal Singh. |
