Congress observes Quit India day | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 9: Congress observed the "Quit India Day" anniversary, today and paid rich tributes to all those who sacrificed during the freedom struggle. A function was held at PCC HQ, today. The speakers recalled the freedom struggle and the role of Quit India Movement of 1942 launched by INC led by Mahatma Gandhi in achieving the goal of freedom. The AICC session at Bombay on 08th August, 1942 decided to launch the Quit India Movement. The entire national leadership of Congress including Mahatma Gandhi were taken into custody same night. The next day Aruna Asif Ali a young leader hoisted the flag breaking all barriers and movement was launched through the length and breadth of the country. While Mahatma Gandhi Ji was in jail, his wife Kasturba Gandhi expired. The entire leadership was in jail but it was Indira Gandhi returned from Srinagar airport and led the entire movement. This movement forced Britishers to decide to leave this country. The speakers also recalled that there are forces and organizations who did not participate in the Quit India Movement and sided with Britishers but today questioning Congress, which is very unfortunate and irony of the time. Their descendants now claim to be ultra-nationalists and questioning the credibility and loyalty of Congress party to the nation.. The present regime wants to distort the history of nation and misguide young generations. Speaking on this occasion Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that the freedom struggle of the Country launched by Congress party (INC) led by father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, served a final ultimatum to the Britishers to quit India, which finally forced the Britishers, through non-violent and peaceful means to leave this country and finally country attained freedom in 1947. He said the Quit India Movement has great importance in the history of freedom struggle of our Country. Prominent among those attended the function include Shah Mohd Choudhary- General Secretary, Vinod Sharma, Narinder Sharma, Neeraj Gupta, Pranav Shagotra, Dr. Kanwal Singh, Madan Lal Malagar, Sanjeev Sharma(Panda), Sardar H.S. Mehta, , Iqbal Dar, Varun Magotra, Rajvir Singh and others. |
