Early Times Report Vijaypur, Aug 20: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today said Congress party is more patriotic than any other political party in the country. "We have sacrificed many lives for the cause of nation and in freedom struggle. We must remember the sacrifices of our two former Prime Ministers Indra Gandhi and Rajeev Gandhi because their laid down their lives for the nation," said Manjit Singh, district president, Samba, while speaking at a function organized to remember former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi on his 75th birth anniversary which is celebrated as " Sadbhavana Diwas" in the country. Singh said that Rajeev Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister and he gave voting right to the youth at 18 years of age, and launched Information Technology sector in India. Being visionary, he said, former PM Gandhi empowered democracy at the grass root level with Panchayati Raj act. "Congress always stands for freedom of speech and expression even when Delhi is ruled by the party. Opposition is always treated as equal responsible public representatives and they were listened when Gandhi was the Prime Minister," he said, added that same traditions were followed by the previous government in the country. "We have learnt tolerance and intelligence from our former Prime Minister who was icon of development in India," said Singh. He said that "The life of late Gandhi teaches us to have patience during crucial times, and motivational attitude to lead the nation as a nationalist." |
