Despite Mehbooba's directive PDP Rajya Sabha members yet to resign | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 20: After passing of bills to abolish Article 370 and re-organization of J&K, former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on August 7 had asked the two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Parliament to resign from the Rajya Sabha, both the members have yet to resign. Instead of following directions of party chief, PDP Rajya Sabha members are buying time to remain as members of the Upper House of the Parliament. Credible sources said that both the Rajya Sabha members were not ready to follow directions of Mehbooba Mufti because they wanted to continue their remaining tenure. The PDP members were physically removed from the Rajya Sabha on August 5 after they tore a copy of the Constitution, in an apparent display of anger against the government deciding to scrap Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. The two PDP members are Mir Fayaz and Nazir Ahmed Laway. The two carried posters against the Centre, which they tore as the Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu allowed Home Minister Amit Shah to first move a resolution for abrogation of Article 370 and then introduce the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019. This was vehemently objected by members of treasury benches. The two members could neither participate in the debate on the resolution and the Jammu and Kashmir reorganisation bill, nor could they vote on them. |
