Govt schools in city become 'leisure centres' for influential teachers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 15: Notwithstanding claims of the authorities to deploy teachers in the schools functioning in rural areas, most of the school situated within municipal limits are still over-staff and many teachers belong to influential families have managed their postings in these approachable school. Shockingly most of these over-staff schools have delivered zero percent results in matriculations and class 12th examinations this year. Most of schools situated within municipal limits, except a few, have delivered very poor results despite the fact that highly qualified teachers, belong to influential families, have been posted in these schools to teach poor students who could not afford education in private schools. Government schools in Jammu city are an indicator of the dismal education scenario in the state where government schools have virtually turned into 'leisure centres' for teachers belong to influential families. After poor results in class 10th and 12th this year, authorities had promised to review performance of all schools situated within city but nothing has been done due to influence of these teachers. "Teachers belonging to influential families have managed their posting in most of the schools located within the city. So, they are least concerned about imparting education to students, who belong to poor sections of society," a senior official of the education department said wishing anonmity. "Who is worried about results in such government schools because these institutions have by and large turned into leisure centres for teachers," he said and admitted that many schools situated within the city are dominated by influential teachers who are playing with the future of students belonging to poor families. The sources said even the higher-ups in the education department could not dare to take any action against these influential teachers due to their political and bureaucratic connections. Fearing transfer in remote areas, monitoring authorities avoid any action against the infleuntail teachers. |
