Are we dumb and silent sheeps - being led to slaughter house?

Mahadeep Singh Jamwal

A fool must now and then be right by chance - Willian Cowper, the verse well applies to us who vote the political parties for our betterment but in Jammu (region) we are the fools of first water as we do not learn from our follies during elections and fall to the dirty games of politicians and we do not choose leaders for our betterment keeping in mind the qualities of the leaders but we vote those non-deserving candidates who are criminals, corrupt, illiterate and useless commodity. Why? Because we are soft hearted and are easily trapped by exploitation of our emotions, we easily fall prey to the caste system and practically we do not use our powerful right of vote in a sensible way but we look for candidates who make us fool by putting caste system, and playing religious cards.
We have witnessed the dirty politics of BJP that has ever exploiting the Jammuites on religious emotions, false promises, creating caste cracks and brotherhood politics (one member of family stooge of one political party and another of other political party on the analogy of idiom - "Andha Bante Rewrian - Fir Fir Apno Ko De"). We remember the time, when BJP was having abysmal representation in the State Assembly but Jammu was not discriminated the way it started getting discrimination with the increasing representation of this party. The 2008 elections that returned 11 BJP MLAs was because of polarizing the sentiments of the Hindu community on 'Amarnath Land Row' that saw many dead both in Jammu as well as in Kashmir. Everyone across the nation remember how majority of them were expelled by the central leadership on charges of corruption and selling out the mandate in favor of Kashmir based party during legislative council elections. But we again proved our self visionless and illiterate when we brought useless commodity of 25 MLAs from this party and many of them turn coats. We were swayed by the new hopes not from Jammu leadership but from a person that was seen as only Demi-God in Kalyug.
But the power lust for this party and to taste power for the first time in J&K put all and everything in dustbin and embraced the PDP that was branded as anti-national party by this BJP and shared almost 50 per cent ministry in the Cabinet with Dy CM from Jammu.
The first favor shown by this Dy. CM towards Jammuites was that he adopted 'Charar-i-Sharief' for development in order to prove his loyalty towards Kashmir in the eyes of Kashmir centric party. We have witnessed pro-Pakistan slogans by Kashmir based legislatures in Jammu Assembly in session and Jammu based Speaker was helpless creature to take any action. All time sonnet of BJP that J&K has been looted like anything by previous regimes is a fool's sonnet. In Jammu the Super Specialty Hospital, ITI, fly overs, High Court Complex, four lane, conversion of Bus stand to multi storey parking, Rope Way project to Bagh-e-Bahu, Jagti complex for migrants, Rail way project from Jammu to Valley, Chenani Tunnel, four lane from Jammu to Udhampur and many more just in Jammu and many infrastructure and development in other districts are prior to the coming of BJP in power both in state as well as in centre. The AIIMS in Jammu during BJP in power both in state and centre is the result of Jammuites agitation. The BJP after power in the state has nothing at its credit to be talked of except vocal commitments and charges of running corrupt practices.
A hoard of many BJP ministers that assembled in Udhampur at Govardhan Palace many years back on occasion of 'Sushasan Rally' very boastfully announced seven flyovers in Udhampur town to provide solace from traffic congestion, but it remained mere a foolish announcement and nothing happened beyond announcement. The BJP has given enhancement in fare travelers to 'Vaishno Devi Yatries', a trouble shooter 'Toll Plaza at Boon for local population and now Toll Plaza at Sarore Vijaypur. It downgraded the status of once largest Princely State to that of mere a Union Territory, and after abrogation of Article 370, it has more discriminated the Jammu (region). Every day we find such discriminatory decisions through print media such as recently reported: Multi - Crore Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for Kashmir fruit growers and nothing for Horticulturist of Jammu province, Militancy torn Kashmir set to get a whooping investment of Rs. 2.000 investment from private players and nothing for peaceful Jammu region, and latest reported that New Delhi to fund JK Madrassas to the tune of Rs 100 Crore for their modernization whereas nothing for other such schools run by other communities. The region has been put 50 years back track by this Party. Everyone is shedding tears for the pains this party has given to us. Taking the region as ancestral property, it has shackled the freedom of the common and one and all by its un-mindful decisions. We have seen how the BJP in Jammu was exposed by its female leaders regarding giving party positions in a shameful manner. The BJP has always held to the hope, the belief, the conviction that there is a better life, a better world, beyond the horizon to grab the power. The freedom of better life has been taken away in downgraded state, and we are pushed to a position like that of a dumb and silent sheep that is led to the slaughter house.
It is time to think over the quote of Mehmet Murat ildan - "A nation which accepts to live a third-class life is just a third-class nation! If a nation wants to be called honourable nation, it must use the option to refuse any kind of policy which is against human dignity! No refuse, no honour! If you don't refuse a bad government, you deserve it all the way!" The present dispensation and leadership has come to a point not afraid of the people, it is our democratic right and moral duty as well that the people must remind such dictatorial minds that they should be afraid of the people. The people who do not respond on the streets to the arrogance of such mentality are nothing but herds of coward sheep. The present dispensation has taken Jammu Kashmir on its own ride forgetting that government is of the people and for the people but it is acting like an alien power over us. It should realize that the ultimate rulers of our democracy are not PM, Ministers, Governor or government officials, but the voters of this country.
