BDC Elections in South Kashmir today, 90 candidates in Poll fray

Anantnag, Oct 23: With much enthusiasm, the Block Development Council elections will be held in four districts of South Kashmir today.
According to details provided by the authorities, 90 candidates are contesting elections from Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts of South Kashmir.
The highest number of contesting candidates is from Anantnag district where around 57 contestants have filled nomination papers for 14 blocks out of 16 blocks, officials told Early Times.
"Anantnag has 16 blocks. Elections will be held in 14 blocks as 2 the result of two blocks have already been declared as single candidate contested from these two blocks and both of them were elected unopposed," Assistant Commissioner Anantnag Mohd Aslam said.
He said that voting will take place from 10:00am to 1:00pm and the counting of votes and declaration of results will take place on same day.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Khalid Jahangir told Early Times that district administration has done elaborate arrangements for the polls that will be held at their respective block headquarters.
"Adequate arrangements have been done and sufficient staff has been deployed for poll duty," he said.
In Kulgam, voting for the Block Development Council Elections will be held on 7 blocks out of 8 Rural Development Department Blocks, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Shabir Ahmad informed ET.
He said that the polling will be held in DH Pora, Phaloo, Devsar, Kund, Qimoh, Kulgam and Behibagh blocks of Kulgam district.
The total number of voters in Kulgam district is 164 and 18 contestants are in poll fray.
For 17 blocks of Pulwama district, 11 contestants are contesting Block Development Elections and 132 Panchs and Sarpanchs (Voters) will decide their fate.
Officials said that elections will be held in Litteer Lassipora, Tral, Aripal, Kakapora and Pampore blocks while as Achgoza keller and shadimarg blocks will not witness elections.
In four blocks of Shopain, elections will be held in 2 blocks and 34 voters will decide the fate of 9 candidates who are contesting elections.
Top police officials told Early Times that proper security measures have been done to ensure peaceful elections.
