JK admin likely to seek Army assistance to restore normalcy in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 25: With the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar based 15 Crops Lt General KJS Dhillon having hinted that Army was ready to provide security to fruit growers in the wake of terror attacks, the Jammu and Kashmir administration looks ahead to formally discuss the proposal with the Army. Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir administration looks ahead to hold a High Command meeting to be chaired by the Governor in the coming days where the plan will be discussed to finalize the modalities. Sources said the civil and police administration in Kashmir looks ahead to formally seek Army assistance for deployment in the sensitive areas especially the rural belts of south and north Kashmir to prevent any further terror strikes. "If Army provides deployment of its forces on the roads leading the orchards and also in market places, the sense of security among the general masses can improve and the anti-national forces can be kept at bay," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. He said the presence of Army would essentially keep terrorists away from busy places and thus people would be able to restore normal life at an earliest. "Till now the police hasn't been able to restore much of sense of security among the masses and this is why normalcy is yet to be fully restored in the region but if Army comes into picture the things can improve quickly," he added. On October 16, the GOC, Lt Gen Dhillon had sharply reacted to recent killings of non-locals in Kashmir including that of Rajasthani driver, fruit merchant and laborer in south Kashmir. He had said the Army was ready to ensure security of farmer community in Kashmir. A senior official in the Kashmir's administration said the Army has played its card and that now it was the responsibility of the civil and police administration to give a practical shape to the proposal. "Army cannot undertake such initiatives in civilian areas without the formal nod of the administration and this is something that needs to be discussed and will be hopefully discussed," said an official. |
