Div Com tours Srinagar city, reviews snow clearance preparedness

SRINAGAR, Nov 7: In view of snowing across the Kashmir valley, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan on Thursday conducted extensive tour of Srinagar City and took first hand appraisal of the snow clearance works at various places.
During the city tour, he visited various places and areas that witness huge rush of public and transport. He also visited J&K High Court, while passing on certain directions to the concerned departments.
The Div Com also convened a meeting to review the winter and snow clearance preparedness and warned the officials against any leniency while carrying out their duties He said inconvenience to public won't be tolerated.
The meeting was attended by the Director Health Services, Kashmir; Director Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA); Director Urban Local Bodies; Additional Commissioner, Kashmir; SSP Traffic, Srinagar; SP Traffic, Rural; Commissioner SMC; Chief Engineer R&B; Chief Engineer PDD; Deputy Director Fire & Emergency Services, officials from Mechanical Engineering Department and other concerned.
Reviewing the preparedness of the departments, the Div Com directed Mechanical Engineering department to ensure snow clearance on all the roads. He also directed the officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) for the clearance of all lanes and by-lanes and deployment of dewatering pumps in case of water logging.
He stressed upon all concerned departments to be prepared and keep their men and machinery in ready mode to tackle any situation arising due to inclement weather conditions and ensure prompt restoration.
Officers of PDD were directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply as per schedule and to keep men and machinery ready to deal with any transmission fault so that power supply is not affected.
The meeting also reviewed winter preparedness and the availability of basic amenities to people. It was informed that all the essential commodities for winter including food grains, firewood, LPG, Medicine and other items stand stocked in all the areas of Kashmir division.
The Div Com directed the Director Health Services to ensure central heating in all the hospitals. He also directed to ensure 100% attendance of doctors and availability of ambulances in all the hospitals. He also directed the PHE department to deploy water tankers for hospitals and other important institutions whenever they need it.
