JU organizes lecture on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 11: The Department of History, University of Jammu organized a lecture today on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad to celebrate the National Education Day. The lecture was delivered by A M Anjum, IGP ( Retd). He began his lecture with brief biographical details of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and went on to elaborate his contributions in the making of nation. In this context, he explained how he was a self-taught man and started composing poetry in Urdu, as well as treatises on religion and philosophy and soon became a prominent journalist. Anjum further elaborated how he opposed Jinnah plan and continued to proclaim his faith in Hindu-Muslim unity. In the context of his contribution towards communal harmony and composite culture, he quoted Maulana Abul Kalam who once stated "I am proud of being an Indian. I am part of the indivisible unity that is Indian nationality. I am indispensable to this noble edifice and without me this splendid structure is incomplete. I am an essential element, which has gone to build India. I can never surrender this claim". The speaker also threw light on the contribution of Azad in the field of education. He was appointed the first Education Minister and played an important role in framing national policies. Azad masterminded the creation of national programmes of school and college construction and spreading the enrolment of children and young adults into schools, to promote universal primary education. Prof Jasbir Singh, Dean Social Sciences and Dean Students Welfare delivered the presidential remarks and extended his gratitude to the speaker. |
