JU faculty members, Research Scholars meet Dr Kiran Bedi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 12: The faculty members and the research scholars of the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, Jammu held a courtesy interaction with Puducherry Lt Governor, Dr. Kiran Bedi at her office, Raj Nivas on Tuesday. The faculty members comprising of Prof. Yash Pal Sharma and Dr. Skarma Nonzom and the research scholars namely Syed Azhar Hashmi, Uzma Altaf and Komal Verma were there to attend and participate in the 46th Annual Meeting of the Mycological Society of India and the National Conference on the 'Recent advances in Biodiversity, Biology and Biotechnology of Fungi' organized by the Department of Biotechnology, Pondicherry University, Kalapet, Puducherry from 7-9 November, 2019. While expressing her happiness to have the visiting faculty and the research scholars at Puducherry from the newly carved Union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Dr. Bedi hoped that the recent developments in these regions would usher in a new era of development and prosperity in these beautiful regions. She also praised the environment of pluralism and communal harmony existing in there since ages constituting the cornerstone of the unique culture that transcends boundaries of caste, creed, region and religion. In her message, she urged upon everyone that 'The time has now come that both young and elders have to take up the initiative of 'each one teach one' in letter and spirit to improve the literacy particularly amongst the female folks there. 'Educating all is the solution for alleviating poverty and bring social justice besides earning respectable livelihood', She said. "For youth empowerment and Swatch Bharat Mission, institutions such as NSS and NCC in University, Colleges and schools could play a very active role". Visiting members were thrilled to meet Dr. Bedi, an iconic women and the Ramon Magsaysay awardee and conveyed their appreciation about the clean and green environment, preservation of rich cultural heritage and easy accessibility to the Raj Nivas at Puducherry. They conveyed to her the greetings on behalf of the Vice-chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Manoj Dhar. Dr. Bedi extended her invitation to the faculty and students for visiting Puducherry and wished lots of prosperity to Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. |
