SKUAST-Jammu organises ten-day training programme | | | Jammu , Nov 13 A ten-day ICAR sponsored training programme on “Recent advances in production of bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides” was inaugurated by Dr. K.S. RIsam, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu on 13th November, 2019. The specialized training, the first of ots kind, in the Jammu and Kashmir is being attended by 24 participants covering seven different states of our country. Prof. Vijay K. Razdan, Division of Plant Pathology and Co-convener of the training welcomed the participants and briefly introduced the importance of bio-pesticides and bio-fertilizers in the present day scenario when the emphasis is being given to seek alternatives measures to reduce agro-chemicals in order to attain sustainable farming system, which is free from chemical residual effects and is healthy. Brief introductions about the list of topics to be covered under the training programme were given by Dr. Vishal Gupta, Course Director. On the occasion a compendium of lecture notes covering hands on training on mass production of bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides was released by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu. Prof. J.P. Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu, in his address emphasized the needs of using bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides in the organic farming and adviced the participants to start the small bio-control laboratories in their respective institutes. Dr. K.S. Risam, highlighted the importance of biological control in the era of import and export of commodities. He desires to popularize the low cost technologies for mass production of bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides for the farmers community. He also desired that organic farming must be promoted and farmers should be made aware about its benefits and higher remunerations that can be achieved from it. . The inaugural function was attended by Prof. D.P.Abrol, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. SEH Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Dr. Deepak Kher, Director, Project Planning and Monitoring, Dr. S.K. Gupta, University Librarian and Sh. Rakesh Talwar, Comptroller and various Heads of Divisions and resource persons. Prof. Anil Gupta, Head, Division of Plant Pathology, proposed a formal vote of thanks.
