JAMMU, Nov 13: The Exhibition Stalls established by Department of Agriculture, Jammu were the main attraction for the visitors in general and the farmers in particular on the inaugural day of Annual Jhiri Mela here at village Kalayanpur (Jhiri). The Agriculture Section was inaugurated and inspected by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma along with Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sushma Chouan. Director Agriculture Jammu, P. S. Rathore, Additional Deputy commissioner Jammu, Rashpal Singh, Joint Director of Agriculture (Extension), Bulesh Zutshi, Joint Director of Agriculture (Inputs), H. S. Mankotia, Chief Agriculture Officer, F. A. Bhat, SDM, Marh (Mela Officer), Tariq Hussain, SDAO Marh, M. R. Rakwal and other officers of the Agriculture Departments were also present on the occasion. All types of Integrated Farming Techniques were displayed to highlight the message of achieving the goal of doubling the farm income by 2022. The exhibits of different wings of the Department like Vegetable Improvement Scheme, Mushroom Development Scheme, Seed Certification Scheme, Soil Testing Laboratory, Plant Health Clinic, Floriculture, Soil Survey Organization etc were displayed in the stalls to create awareness among the farmers regarding modern agricultural technology and to educate them on improved inputs usage. The Government Agriculture Workshop also displayed tools and implements manufactured by the workshop. The heavy agriculture machines like Tractors, Straw Maker, Reaper-cum-Binders, Seed-cum-Fertilizer Drills, Power Tillers, and Sprayers etc were also displayed by different private companies. The various crop raising techniques, demonstration of machines and other Pre & Post harvest crop operations were shown to the farmers through Electronic display Screen. Some of the progressive farmers also displayed and sold their farm produce like Turmeric, Garlic, and Honey etc. Five prominent progressive farmers Sat Pal R/O Tiboo Talab, Sukhdev Singh R/O Kanachak, Kuljeet Singh R/O Kanachak, Raghuvir Singh R/O Malpur and Purshotam lal R/O Misriwala were felicitated for their exemplary Integrated Farm activities. Over 500 live exhibits of paddy, maize, vegetables, mushroom and sugarcane crops brought by the farmers from different areas were displayed and assessed by the Judging Committee. Prizes were given to 175 farmers for best exhibits out of which 25 farmers got Ist prizes, 25 IInd, 25 3rd and 100 consolation prizes were also given away to the farmers. |
