Prof Gupta demands review of administrative units | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 22: The Former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has emphasised for detailed review of the administrative units in J&K alleging that under communal and regional considerations the most of the erstwhile ruling leaders had created a ridiculous situation ignoring all the ends of justice and fair play. He also sought the measures for correction of several other burning issues longing for years but for erroneous reasons, especially the prevailing corruption and infected mindset. In a statement Prof. Gupta said that fiddling with the administrative units had begun after the end of Maharajas rule and in 1950, the volatile district of Doda was created with a design by winding up the district Reasi. The Praja Parishad led by visionary Pandit Prem Nath Dogra opposed the such moves but was dubbed as communal and reactionary. Over the decades several other changes have been made and ignoring the recommendations of Wazir and other commissions. The number of districts for both the regions of Kashmir and Jammu had been raised to ten each although the regions of Jammu is having nearly double the geographical area and almost equal population, he added and alleged that the ill will towards Jammu can be gauged that while in the valley the district head quarters are located at the distance of generally eight to fifteen kilometres, in the regions of Jammu, the story is quite different. The people have to move 60 to 80 Kilometers to reach district headquarters. |
