Sajjad Lone caught in 'Sach' or 'Jhooth' row! | From CM aspirant to ordinary prisoner | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 23: Separatist turned mainstream politician, People's Conference chairman Sajjad Gani Lone, who is under detention since August 5 in Srinagar has denied the media reports that he tried contacting anyone within the establishment to seek his release. A media report had claimed that Lone had used a cell phone of some policeman and spoken to the people at the helm in New Delhi. However, Lone rubbished the media report and even threatened to file a defamation suit. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Soon after the PDP-BJP coalition government was formed in Jammu & Kashmir, Sajjad was inducted into the council of ministers on BJP quota. Infact he didn't deserve to be a minister as his party had only won two seats in the 2014 Assembly elections in the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir." He said, "Sajjad Lone used to claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is his elder brother and he is very close to the BJP. Sajjad used to boast about his close proximity with the BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav and other top leaders of the party." The analyst said,"Soon after the BJP pulled out from the PDP led coalition government in Jammu & Kashmir in June last year, Sajjad started projecting himself as the next Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir. He openly claimed that he enjoys full support of the BJP and the PDP rebels. However, his chances to reach on the top were dashed when PDP-Congress and National Conference joined hands in J&K at the fag end of the year 2018 and staked the claim to form the government. Sajjad Lone also staked the counter claim and announced that he enjoys full support of the BJP and the PDP rebels. However, then Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Satya Pal Malik had a last laugh as he dissolved the Assembly and did not entertain any claims about the government formation." An observer said that when parliamentary elections were held in 2019, Sajjad Lone had claimed that his party will win all three seats in Kashmir. "The claim proved to be exaggerated as his party couldn't even win a single seat. Prior to the polls he had made his friends within the BJP believe that people are yearning for a change and he has made inroads into the bastions of Kashmir-centric parties-People's Democratic Party and National Conference but his claims proved incorrect," the observer added. He said, "Sajjad is denying that he has not contacted anyone. But his old ally BJP seems least bothered, making it clear that it doesn't care about him anymore." |
