Keran-Kupwara road reopens, work on Karnah, Machil in progress | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 29: After clearing snow on the road, connecting border town of Keran with district headquarter Kupwara, traffic was allowed on Friday after remaining suspended on Wednesday. Snow clearance has also almost been completed on the roads leading two more border towns of Karnah and Machil, an official of Police Control Room (PCR) said over phone from Kupwara today. He said the road to border towns of Karnah and Keran were closed on Wednesday due to fresh snowfall while Machil remained cut off from the district headquarter Kupwara due to accumulation of several feet of snow since last week. The Keran-Kupwara and Karnah-Kupwara roads had reopened only on Tuesday after clearance of snow experienced last week. Traffic was resumed on Keran-Kupwara road today, he said adding snow clearance operation has been completed on Kupwara-Karnah and Kupwara-Machil roads. After getting clearance that both the roads are safe for journey, we will allow traffic in the afternoon provided there is no fresh snowfall, he said. Majority roads connecting dozens of far flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) remained closed during winter months due to heavy snowfall. |
