Jammu, Nov 29: Chenab basin of Jammu Divison having power generation capacity of 15000 MW surprisingly faces 16-18 hours power cuts in a day at the time when the winter season has just started causing lot of inconvenience to not only business community, but also to students who fail to carry out their studies due to dark nights. As per the details available with Early Times, the twin Districts of Doda and Kishtwar along with Ramban District is facing acute shortage of power due to frequent and uninvited power cuts as a result of which the anger is simmering among the common people of the area having population of around 10-11 lakhs. The angry people told the Early Times that despite producing around 1300 MW power from Dool Hasti (390) and Baglihar (900 MW), the people of Chenab valley are being forced to live in dark age due to unschedule power cuts. The people said that even though the government has installed meters, digitally control boxes outside the homes of the consumers making restriction on the power theft beside had issued power curtailment schedule, the electric cuts are way beyond the time table issued by the department. People inform that due to frequent power cuts ranging between 16-18 hours in a day, the education of the students is suffering badly. "We have semester system in college exams & due to huge and unschedule power cuts- our studies are suffering badly" the college students told Early Times added that the government must take effect measures to streamline the electricity distribution system in Chenab Valley so that they can continue their studies. The business community also rued the frequent power cuts added that the business community is suffering due to hide and seek by the electricity. "We are being charged without being providing the services for which we are paying" said the businessman. The people said that they are facing electricity crises as and when the winter season approaches added that last year whole Chenab Valley remain in dark for nearly two weeks due to collapse of 132KV tower line. The other aspect of the power crises in Kishtwar District is growing demand of increased power supply for under construction 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power projects beside their is also requirement of power for proposed power projects in Kishtwar District while at the same time the capacity of the existing 132KV transmission line to Kishtwar is very low. Speaking to Early Times, senior PDD official inform that TLMD department responsible for distribution of power has installed additional 10 MWA transformer at Malipath Grid Station which will surely address the power crises in Kishtwar District. He said that due to functioning of Ramban-Khellani transmission line, the power load of Bhaderwah and Doda has been catered by the said transmission line making existing Kishtwar line free from extra burden- but accepted that their is need to complete the double circuit line Upto Kishtwar added that once the work on power projects in Kishtwar District- the demand will increase with the passage of time. He said that since the power sector has been privatised, the power crises will be addressed by next year. |
