Former BJP leader's delegation to Kashmir draws flak from people | 'They were only interested in talking to NC, PDP and their relatives' | | Early Times Report srinagar, Dec 2: Even as recently a high level team of delegates led by a former Bharatiya Janta Party leader recently visited Kashmir, the people of Kashmir have accused the group of being "politically motivated and having come to the valley with a pre-meditated plan." Many of the common people who wanted to get audience from the delegates who were on a 4-day visit, were denied the meeting. "We went to the hotel where they(delegates) were putting up and kept waiting for several hours to get a chance to put forth our views before them but they (delegates) denied meeting us," a group of aggrieved people told Early Times. The people said the visiting delegates told them that they would be meeting on priority only the leaders from National Conference or Peoples Democratic Party or the relatives of the leaders from the two parties but not the common people. Sources said the delegates had "fixed their meetings in advance with the like-minded people alone and thus didn't want to meet anyone would hold a different opinion on the abrogation of the Article 370." "Their visit was nothing more than a picnic for them as they enjoyed luxuries at the posh hotel in the secured area," said one group of people from central Kashmir denied the meeting. Official sources said they also had inputs that the delegation would only meet "the like-minded". Interestingly though the police had not kept restrictions over the movement of the visiting delegates in the summer capital of Srinagar, the team avoided visiting any of the city areas to get the firsthand account of what people want. "If they had come to meet people of Kashmir why they insisted on visiting Pulwama alone? Was Srinagar not a place worth their visit or to interact with the people and get feedback?" questioned a senior official on the condition of anonymity. It is being largely believed that the delegation had come to "settle personal scores" with the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party leaders in New Delhi. "They had not come for the people of Kashmir but to meet their own political motives," said one analyst. Despite repeated attempts the members of the visiting delegation couldn't be contacted for comments. |
