No word about its retrieval leaves people guessing | PoK part of Union Territory of J&K | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 4:
Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy recently informed the Parliament that territories under Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir also include Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "We have been hearing it for the past many decades that the PoK is under the illegal control of Pakistan and it needs to be retrieved. Everytime the nation is told that PoK is the part of India and it has to be clubbed with Jammu & Kashmir but till date no concrete step has been taken to retrieve it."
He said, "When Government of India reorganized Jammu & Kashmir, a perception was created across the country that next step would be to liberate PoK to complete the merger of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir into the Union of India. But it did not happen."
The analyst said after J&K's reorganization, the GoI had issued a map which shows PoK as a part of Jammu & Kashmir. "The map was issued when the air was filled with the talks about country's leadership having made up its mind about taking a tough decision viz a viz PoK," he added.
An observer said that, "Talks about retrieving PoK stopped after India visit of Chinese President Xi-Ping in October month. He discussed range of issues with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi but did not mention Kashmir in any of his statements."
The observer said that everyone is aware about the fact that China has made huge investments in PoK to set up an economic corridor. "It seems that Chinese President may have asked the Prime Minister Modi to allow China to handle the PoK and Pakistan. Soon after the two leaders met in outskirts of Chennai, India issued a statement assuring China that it won't take any such step which would escalate the tension in the region," he added.
The observer said that there are reports about China having exerted pressure over Pakistan to dismantle the terror infrastructure and act against the terrorist networks operating in the country. "But Pakistan seems in no mood to mend its ways as the reports emanating from the other side are disturbing as terror launch pads are filled with terrorists and they are waiting to infiltrate into this side. If Pakistan continues to push terrorists into this side and continues to violate ceasefire along the Line of Control then India will be left with no other option other than giving a befitting reply to Pakistan. Chinese pressure won't work," he added
