Early Times Report
srinagar, Dec 6: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary visited the Gangbugh area in Tehsil South and took a firsthand appraisal of its developmental concerns a local delegation from the area brought to his notice earlier this week.
The visit was a part of the Srinagar administration's public outreach initiative aimed at understanding and addressing the developmental concerns of areas of the district.
Senior officers from concerned departments including Chief Planning Officer, Joint Commissioner SMC, Superintending Engineers Drainage and R&B, Executive Engineers Drainage Civil and Drainage Mechanical, Tehsildar South among others accompanied the Deputy Commissioner.
The visit saw several concerns and grievances of the area as raised on the occasion resolved on the spot. Several other demands were noted for inclusion in the planning process.
One of the several concerns addressed and authorised for redressal was one surrounding the held-up drainage project worth around 12 crore rupees taken up under the central government's Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation or AMRUT scheme in the area.
The visit revealed that while the drainage network was laid and completed in 2018 the project completion has been held up because of a local resident's obstruction to construction of a dewatering station that was to be taken up in the second phase of the project following completion of the first phase.
It was informed that work on civil construction of the dewatering station is around 50 percent complete and that on electro-mechanical procurement around 80 percent complete but has been stopped.
The DC while speaking on the occasion issued strict warnings to whoever was causing obstructions to operation of interim dewatering measures or construction of the permanent dewatering station in the area and directed the concerned departments to complete all formalities and resume work on the project.
He directed the concerned Tehsildar to speed up the process of acquisition of the land identified for building of the dewatering station and also directed for initiating strict action against obstructors hampering execution of the work.
The land owner was told the land acquisition would be processed as per terms of the MoU signed with him and that compensation as due would be processed in his favour.
Concerned Executive Engineers were asked to ensure nonstop operation of interim dewatering measures put in place in the area and to resume and complete work on the permanent dewatering station at the earliest. The concerned department was asked to submit work performance report to DC's office at the end of each week.
Concerns surrounding road conditions and power infrastructure in the area were also brought to the notice of the DC on the occasion.
Dr Shahid while interacting with them assured the locals of looking into all concerns as raised on the occasion and their quickest possible redressal. He directed the concerned departments to submit status details of all developmental works in progress in the area and the area's further developmental requirements.
The locals thanked the DC for his visit and issuing instructions for resolving issues hampering completion of ongoing developmental projects and for taking up new developmental works in the area.
