Jammu, Dec 15: Another wall of the under-construction bridge caved-in today averting a tragedy in Kalakote town of district Rajouri. On 6th of July this a wall had already caved-in, which local youths had a narrow escape. "Another retaining wall of an under-construction bridge was caved-in, however, no loss of the life has been reported yet", informed Early Times. The bridge of part of Reasi-Rajouri national highway and is being executed by the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF). "Thanks to almighty that no one was present there when the incident took place, otherwise, someone has lost his life, laborers and other staff of GREFF manning the ongoing works were not the present near the wall", they said, adding that the wreckage of the wall reached in premises of adjoining private schools building. "Works on Bridge begun at least a decade ago, but it could complete yet by end of last the financial year might be pressured from higher authorities for poor performance, the GREF official engaged on stretch speed-up the work, allegedly compromising the quality", they said. OIC, 58 RCC, Shamsher Singh when contacted said that the wall collapsed today. It was an old one constructed in 2007. "We have constructed two new walls, and works on remaining two walls in progress", he added. |
