J&K administration to take call on release of political leaders, restoration of internet in valley: Madhav | | | Wajahat Shabir Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 26: In a second visit to the valley post August 5, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Ram Madhav hinted that it is the administration of Jammu and Kashmir that is going to take call on the release of political leaders and on the restoration of internet services in Kashmir. The remarks by Bharatiya Janata Party General Secretary Ram Madhav came during the press conference in Srinagar on Thursday at Taj Vivanta. It is the second visit of Ram Madhav after the abrogation of Article 370. While as many political leaders including Member of Parliament Dr. Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister's Mehbooba Mufti , Omar Abdullah and other leaders continue to remain detained. At the same time, internet services continue to be remained barred since the Abrogation of Article 370 on August 5. Ram Madhav will addressing the media said, "See, internet, I mean broadband is gradually being restored in hotels etc. J&K administration will take a call on restoring internet at an appropriate time. He added, "The release of political prisoners will also depend on the J&K government's review". He said that prevailing situation in terms of internet gag etc are all temporary in nature. "Such measures will go as and when peace would be more permanent feature in Kashmir," Madhav said. Clearing the air about Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Population Register (NPR), Ram Madhav said "There was no threat to Muslims or other minorities from the Citizenship Amendment Act (CCA) and National Population Register (NPR) and nobody would be ousted from the country. Madhav added, " There was a misinformation campaign being spread by some vested interests and opposition leaders across the country against BJP. "I assure people of the country and Jammu and Kashmir that this law was not against anyone. There was no threat to Muslims or any other minority section of the country be those Buddhists, Christians or other sect," Madhav added. "When Indian citizens were ousted from Uganda, they too were given citizenship after completing formalities," he said. About the National Population Register, he said CAA and NPR had nothing to do with the National Citizenship Register (NCR). "NPR is just an extension of Census exercise to collect demographic and population data," he said. Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing unscheduled power cuts in the winter season, When BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav was asked about the promise of 24-hour electricity by the former Governor of J&K Satya Pal Malik in winter months in Jammu and Srinagar cities. He said that he could feel that winters in Kashmir are set to be very harsh. "I have discussed the issue with the administration and I have been told that power cuts would be reduced. I urged the J&K administration to take steps to ensure minimum power cuts. I advocate more power for the people of Kashmir, I mean electric power." |
