RDD Rajouri embezzles lakhs released for maintenance of FCI Store | | | RAJESH TANDON
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 2: Rural Development Department (RDD) Rajouri has allegedly siphoned off lakhs of rupees which were released for the maintenance of store of Food Corporation of India (FCI) nearly three years ago. Sources told Early Times that the FCI godown, which is situated in Panchayat Prodi of tehsil Kotranka of district Rajouri was constructed around 10-15 years ago for storage of the grains for further distribution to the dealers. However, the FCI godown building is in total shambles due to non seriousness of the RDD Rajouri. “The roof sheds and walls of the store are crumbling and need immediate repair and maintenance. For this, center issued funds of around Rs 7-8 lakhs for its repair during 2016-17 to RDD under MGNREGA but only negligible part of this amount was spent on the building just to show in books and rest of the amount was embezzled by the department,” they said. The condition of store is such that even storage of grains is not safe there and more shockingly the store has been turned into a makeshift toilet. Due to absence of proper storage space, the dealers of the area are the main beneficiaries; they said further adding that the local Sarpanch had lifted all the important things of the stores and took to his home. When contacted, the AD FCI Rajouri Mukhtar Ahmad said that he had just joined posting here and didn’t know about anything much about it. He further said that he would take up this matter with RDD and will inquire about it and if some irregularity was found, the culprits will be taken to task. |
