Govt preparing list of 2 dozen corrupt netas | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 16: In a bid to fight corruption much in line with the commitment as made by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in his iconic words that “Na Khawuga Na Khane Dunga”, the government is preparing a list of at least two dozen allegedly corrupt politicians in Kashmir. Sources said in the first phase, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has been assigned the job of getting details of property as owned by the politicians who have been accused of corruption in the last seventy years. Sources said the ACB has put its sleuths on the job and that the list was likely to be ready by the end of this month. Once the report is tabled, the government plans a major action against those found guilty. Sources said most of the names, which figure in the list, are of politicians, who had been affiliated with the regional parties from Kashmir that largely ruled the state for the last seventy odd years. Sources said the names under scanner include some of the former Chief Ministers and their kin as well. It was reliably learnt that a special team has been deputed on the job of verifying reports about the “Benami” property owned by such politicians in other states as well. If sources are to be believed, some details pertaining to around one dozen odd politicians have already been collected and that “complete documental evidence was awaited to establish the facts.” Sources said there was every likelihood that some of the leaders, who are presently under detention, may straight land in jail for inquiry into complaints of corruption against them. Officials privy to such development said many of the politicians in Kashmir have been story of “rags to riches”. “The common man down the lane knows it quite well that many of such politicians come from humble background. So, how come have they amassed properties running into millions is the first question everyone asks?” said an official on the condition of anonymity. When contacted a senior official remained tightlipped about if the case has been assigned to the ACB or some central agency. “All I can say is that war against corruption is an endless battle and things in this regard will be made public as and when breakthrough is made.”
