Srinagar, Jan 21: Panic gripped summer capital, Srinagar, on Tuesday morning when the embankment of the river Jhelum breached in the cantonment Shivpora, Sonwar area. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Srinagar Dr Shahib Iqbal Choudhary has ordered an inquiry after the people alleged that the restoration work done after breach in the embankment in 2014 was not carried out properly. Despite low water level in the river during the winter, a portion of the embankment came down on Tuesday morning in Shivpora, triggering panic among locals. ''I have ordered repair of the breach immediately'', Mr Choudhary said. |
