GOI ignoring Mehbooba by extending olive branch to Beigh? | Muzaffar Beigh’s Padma Bushan spikes PDP’s anxiety | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 26: Conferring of prestigious Padma Bushan to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron MuzaffarBeigh has set the alarm bells ringing within his party with leaders apprehending that the central government is trying to woo Beigh while sidelining Mehbooba Mufti. As per the reports, PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig, has been named for Padma Bhushan. Accepting the award, the PDP patron said that the award has not been conferred upon him but it is for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He even went further, bashing Pakistan and declaring Jammu and Kashmir as India’s integral part. “There can never be any referendum in J&K. Pakistan PM Imran Khan and the US president are asking for autonomy to J&K. It means they've accepted that J&K is an integral part of India...We demand that J&K should be given what the Constitution gives us,” Beigh said as per the reports. Meanwhile, the PDP patron being awarded for Padma Bhushan has caused the anxiety surge among the PDP leaders who apprehend rebellion within at present. PDP leaders wishing to remain anonymous told Early Times that Beigh accepting the award has hinted at a major breakthrough in the party politics and that the central government has extended olive branch to the PDP patron and has been sidelining the party president Mehbooba Mufti who is under deletion for the past more than five months. “This very development is very telling in nature. It has revealed upon all that the central government wants to keep Beigh happy and he may be accorded with a vital responsibility in future. This could cause a serious wedge between the party leadership as Beigh recently held Mehbooba responsible for issuing provocative statements that according to him led to scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, ” said a PDP leader. Beigh in December 2018 had said that he was sidelined even when PDP and BJP stitched a common ground after the 2014 polls threw a fragmented mandate in the state. After around three months of deliberations, PDP formed alliance with the BJP and signed agenda of alliance that both the parties termed as a ‘guiding principle’ of running a coalition government in the state. “I was completely sidelined. On December 28, 2014, Mufti sahib in the presence of MehboobaJi had told me to get a document prepared for my preliminary negotiations with BJP. On January 1st, 2015,I was told by MehboobaJi that I should stay back and some other person had been chosen to speak to BJP. I don’t know why they did so, but yes, I was sidelined, therefore I don’t have any knowledge about the terms and conditions of the engagement with BJP,” Beigh was quoted as having said in an interview. Castigating the party’s approach over burying its self rule document for Kashmir issue resolution, Beigh had said that the document would now look obsolete. “PDP’s self rule now looked like an obsolete document as the idea was never going to be possible unless Hurriyat and Pakistan accepted it,” Beigh said.
