5 of a family killed in car accident near Kishtwar

Kishtwar, Feb 12: Five members of a family died in a road accident near Pani Nallah in Drabshalla area of district Kishtwar on Batote-Kishtwar stretch of National Highway.
The tragic incident took place in the wee hours of the day when the family was returning home from Jammu with the body of a 3 month old infant, who died at Jammu.
According to reports, the Maruti 800 vehicle bearing Registration No JK07-2745 in which the family was travelling skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge resulting into on spot death of five members.
Those who died in this tragic accident were identified by Police sources as Sanjay Kumar (32) son of Pawan Kumar of Bhaderwah, Pawan Kumar (32) son of Bansi Lal, Rekha Devi (26) wife of Pawan Kumar, Reta Devi (30) wife of Rakesh Kumar and Kewal Krishan (37) son of Phool Chand, all residents of Drabshalla Tehsil in Kishtwar District.
The rescue operation was launched soon after the news of the accident broke out. The locals and police officials from Drabshala immediately rushed to the spot and started rescue operation which lasted for several hours and after overcoming various difficulties, the dead bodies of all the deceased persons were recovered from the site of the accident.
Speaking to Early Times, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Rajinder Singh Tara said that he personally supervised the rescue operation adding that the ACR Kishtwar Dr Amir Hussain, local Tehsildar Shoaib Lateef along with other officials immediately rushed to the spot to monitor and expedite the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former MLA Inderwal, G M Saroori expressed extreme grief and sorrow over the loss of 5 innocent lives on Batote-Kishtwar road.
In his condolence message, Saroori conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family. He expressed deep concern and dismay over the recurring loss of lives from frequent road accidents in Chenab Valley.
