Agents of private pharmacies hijack GMC Rajouri Hospital | Gullible patients lured to purchase medicines from their shops | | ANKIT KESSAR

RAJOURI, Feb 12: The agents of private pharmacies situated outside the Associated Hospital of Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri have virtually gone to such extent that they are constantly seen pursuing patients or their attendants and lure them into purchasing medicines prescribed by doctors. Sources told Early Times that these agents, who are actually employees of private pharmacies can be seen standing outside OPDs including Gynaecology, Surgical, General Physician and can also be seen roaming in different wards. “As soon as patients come out of the doctor’s rooms, these agents pounced on them and started motivating them to purchase medicines. At time they snatch prescription lists from the penitents’ hand take them to their shops promising them to provide them medicines on discount. But these shops sell cheap company’s medicines on exorbitant rates to the patients instead of branded medicines,” they alleged. They further said that the poor and gullible patients come into their trap easily. “It has been observed that some employees of hospitals are involved in this nexus, who provide information about patients admitted in the hospital these agents. Moreover, hospital employees also recommend patients to purchase medicines from particular shop in lieu of commission,” they alleged. Astonishingly all this malpractice is going on under the nose of hospital administration and police security, which remain silent and lenient towards these agents, who keeping wondering in the hospital premises all the day. Sources further informed that several time the hospital administration had issued circular in this connection to prevent the entries of these agents inside the hospital but nothing happened. Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri, Dr Raghubir Gupta, when contacted, said that they have increased surveillance by installing CCTVs camera to prevent these agents and police have also been asked to take action against them on getting complaints.
