Centre for Women’s Studies, JU stages Nukkad on Girl Child

Jammu, Feb 12- Under the Outreach Program Series, the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, organised Nukkad Natak on the theme “Hamari Betiyaan” at Government Degree College, R.S. Pura, Jammu. The purpose was to spread awareness among students about the inequalities girls face in the society and also to raise the awareness about the rights of the girl child as well as the importance of girl’s education, health and nutrition. The nukkad natak was staged keeping all these factors in mind which was witnessed by huge number of students and staff of the GDC, R.S. Pura. The performance was given by the artists of Nav Durga Kala Manch under the directions of Mr. Aditya Bhanu. The gathering thoroughly enjoyed the nukkad natak which highlighted the issues like female foeticide, declining sex-ratio, son preference prevalent in the society. Prof. Vishav Raksha, the Director, Centre for Women’s Studies began the show by emphasizing on the fact that every individual has to come forward to remove the inequalities faced by the girls in the society, so that the same message may be further disseminated in the family in particular and society at large. She further thanked all the audience and performers. Prominent among those who witnessed the show included Dr. Sunita Sudan Principal GDC R S Pura, Dr Rajinder Singh, Dr. Shveta, Dr. Rajni Bala, Dr. Meneka Rajput and other faculty members of GDC. Dr. Priyanka Katoch, Dr. Saranjit Kaur, faculty of the CWS were also present.
