Modi’s tenure witnesses deterioration in women’s status: Mahila Congress | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 8: On the occasion of Women’s Day, Pradesh Mahila Congress organized a rally against women insecurity at Jammu. Pradesh Mahila Congress president and ex-MLA Indu Pawar presided over the function in which speakers exposed BJP led NDA government at the Centre for its failure to protect atrocities on women. Pradesh Mahila Congress also conducted a house to awareness programmes against women insecurity in the society. This programme was carried in Samba, Kathua & other districts. “Tenure of Modi government has led to deterioration in women’s status on several important fronts. The overall pro-corporate thrust of the government’s policies on the economic front, its blatant assault on the constitutional principles of democracy and secularism”, Pawar said. She said that during Modi’s tenure crimes against women are increasing and even ruling party leaders are involved in committing heinous crime against women. She narrated case of UP where BJP MLA is convicted in rape of the student and murder of her father. It has found that in global perception India today is the most dangerous place for women in the world. There were 3.35 lakh cases of crimes against women in 2019, the latest year of statistics published. That is 30,000 more cases of crime than in the previous year. There were 38,947 cases of rape. That means every hour, four cases of rape took place. More than one third of these cases of rape were against children. If one looks at the crime figures against dalit and adivasi women, the conviction rate is even lower. |
