Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 8: Former minister Thakur Randhir Singh and National President Aromatic and Medicinal Plants Growers Association of India (APGAI) congratulated the 42 year old farmer Bharat Bhushan from Doda who was selected for the prestigious "Innovative Farmer Award". Bhushan has been selected for the prestigious award by by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) for commercial Lavender cultivation which is a scented bushy plant with fragrance, medicinal and aromatic properties and beautiful colour andi its oil is used in cosmetics, Perfumes and aromatherapy. Singh said that Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have great potential of Aromatic plants which are abundant in the UT of J&K, however, all the previous regimes have totally ignored this sector and unfortunately the Department of Indian System of Medicines (ISM) also neglected this sector. Singh said Chattisgarh, North-East, Himachal, Uttrakhand, Punjab and some states in the south are doing commendable job and have provided technical, financial help to the growers of Aromatic plants for exporting and European countries. |
