How Limiting Beliefs limit our potential #VitaminG

If you think you are unlovable, you will attract people who treat you as so.
If you think you are not worthy of that job then that job will go to someone else.
If you have fear of money or relationships then most likely you would live in scarcity of both.
The only thing stopping you is limiting beliefs, habits, and patterns of behavior that don’t serve you but hurt you.
Well, wake up these are just the limiting beliefs which have been embedded into us as blueprint since childhood from our surroundings, upbringing and patterns that drives our life and can impact it in negative ways, blocking you from abundance.
You may not realize this but you are the only one getting in the way of reaching your full potential. So lets stop putting blames on someone else for our bad decisions and failures.
Limiting beliefs make you feel that you aren’t good enough, you don’t belong , that you are not smart, ugly, or that you can’t do this or you can’t do this for whatever the reason, come from your childhood impressions.
They inform your life but they’re not who you are.
This is a blueprint that has embedded inside you as a child.
You experience certain experiences as a child – you observe for example your parents and other people who have an influence on your life – and absorb their beliefs, particularly about themselves.
It rubs off on to you, passes down to you subconsciously.
But this blueprint is just a narrative that’s in your head.
It’s a critical voice that’s telling you:
This is who you are.
That is what you are worth.
This is what you deserve
If you believe that negative voice, you will accept less for yourself.
You will go into relationships that aren’t good enough for you because that’s what your voice tells you you are worthy of.
One of my clients had limiting belief - that she cannot travel abroad being scared of disease, not good food, afraid of the strangers, or doesn’t match up with their lifestyle.
This Negative belief stopped her from travelling and learning from other cultures that may have expanded her horizon and enhance her life.
Well, the good news is we can work on these limiting beliefs and build new patterns of abundance which help us live a more fulfilling life. Like we did with my client who is now travelling the world and sending me pictures and notes from every country she visits.
So let’s know how control negative thoughts or limiting beliefs.
You have the power within you to choose who you want to be and create the life you dream of.
Identify the Limiting Belief
The first step is to identify the limiting belief that is not serving you. A good way to start is to fill in the blanks to this question: “I have always wanted to _____________, but I am unable too because I am _____________________.” Perhaps you have always wanted to start your own business but think it’s too late, that you’re too old. Maybe, you have a great idea for a new mobile app which can change the future, but don’t pursue your dream because you believe you’re not a good writer. Whatever it is that you want to do in your life, identify the beliefs that are keeping you from living the life you desire.
Challenge the Limiting Belief
The next step is to challenge the limiting belief. Anthony Robbins in his book, Awaken the Giant Within, uses the metaphor of a belief being like a table top with legs. The table top is the belief, and the legs are the facts used to support the belief. However, often the legs we used to support a limiting belief are not factual, we just believe they are. When we examine our so-called facts we find that we have blown them out of proportion and shaped them to form a false narrative. When we begin to question these facts, the legs get cut out from underneath the table top, and the limiting belief begins to fall apart.
Replace the Limiting Belief
Can the new legs support the old limiting belief? No, because they simply are not compatible. In this case, you will need to replace your old limiting belief with a new one. 100 years back none believed going to various continents in few hours would be a possibility, similarly we would have been considered fools if we talked about going to other planets than just reading about them. So few years back when Tesla launched MARS program everybody challenged but eventually agreed to a possibility of life on new planet. And now various other companies are planning to do the same. Why? They changed their limiting belief of one that they could not go to another planet, to a belief that they actually could. Two of the most powerful words in the world are I AM. To form your new belief simply write out I AM ____________, and fill in the blank with new belief.
“Act As If” You Have Already Achieved
Will your new belief take over night? Probably not. You have had your old limiting belief( I call it my Betaal) for so long it’s going to take time to build up those legs to support your new belief. There is an old saying of “fake it till you make it”, but a more positive outlook would be to “Act as if” you have already achieved your new belief. If you wanted to be a world class musician, how would that person act? Or an athlete at the top of their game? Perhaps your belief is you’re a great business person. How would a great business person act? Whatever your new belief is act as if you are already that person. What would such a person do?
As stated before, it’s not going to happen overnight.
However, following these four steps you will be well on your way to identifying your limiting beliefs, challenging them, installing new empowering beliefs, and acting as if you have already achieved your desired outcome.
