Farooq in silent mode | | | National Conference president, Farooq Abdullah, maintaining silence over the new domicile law for Jammu and Kashmir is making many people believe that senior Abdullah is in no mood to annoy the Centre. The NC president, who reacted to every development prior to August 5, 2019, has gone in a silent mode. Some are of the opinion that he has assured the Centre that he won’t give any such statement which can lead to confusion and instigate people. Others believe that Farooq Abdullah has handed over the baton to his son Omar Abdullah. Soon after Farooq Abdullah was released, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad met him at his Gupkar residence in Srinagar and had reportedly told him to attend the Parliament session. Azad, according to the media reports, had suggested Farooq to reach New Delhi and Congress will provide him full support to take on the BJP led NDA government for revoking J&K’s special status. But senior Abdullah didn’t pay any heed to his suggestion. Farooq has maintained intriguing silence after his release from 7-month long detention. People are trying to figure out the reasons behind Farooq Abdullah’s silence. One reason for him remaining silent could be that after he was put under detention no one came out to seek his release. So why should he rake such issues which can put him in trouble again? He seems to have realized that raising hue and cry about revocation of Article 370 is not going to serve any purpose. He is aware of the fact that the matter is sub-judicious let the Supreme Court take the call. Soon after his release Farooq Abdullah had said that his freedom is incomplete without the release of his son Omar Abdullah and the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti. Omar has been released but Mehbooba still continues to be under detention. So he may speak after Mehbooba and few other political leaders, including Ali Mohammad Sagar, Nayeem Akther and others are released. Farooq’s silence could be an indication that he has accepted the reality and wants people and others to move on and leave the past behind. The Centre introducing the domicile law has not broken Farooq’s silence but may be some other major development in future could make him speak. It seems he wants to maintain his golden silence to send a message that do whatever you want, I am watching you.
