Positive cases of Corona Virus reach 341 in JK, 51 recover so far | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 18: As 13 more people tested positive for the Novel Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir in the past 24 hours the total number of positive cases of COVID-19 in the union territory reached 341. All the fresh cases came to the fore from the Kashmir valley and no new case was reported from the Jammu division. While five cases got reported on Friday night eight more cases came to the fore during the day today. Five cases each were reported from Bandipora and Shopian districts followed by Anantnag (two cases) and Budgam (one case). While Kashmir accounts for 287 positive cases of COVID-19, the number of cases in Jammu is 54. With today’s fresh cases Bandipora has emerged as the district with most number of cases that is 80. Bandipora is closely followed by the Srinagar district with 78 cases. At the same time, nine patients of Corona Virus were discharged from two hospitals in Srinagar. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 13 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (all from Kashmir division), have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 341. “Out of 341 positive cases, 285 are active positive, 51 have recovered and five have died. Furthermore, till date 60,419 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which include 6071 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government,” said the bulletin. The bulletin said that 285 persons are in hospital isolation, 252 in hospital quarantine and 25,692 under home surveillance. Besides, 28,114 persons have completed their surveillance period. Moreover, nine more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged today. These include five from Chest Diseases Hospital, Srinagar and four from SKIMS, Soura. The bulletin further said that out of 6,937 test results available, 6,596 samples have tested as negative till April 18, 2020. It said that Bandipora has 80 positive cases wherein 68 are active positive, 11 recovered and one has died, Srinagar 78 positive cases with 60 active positive, 17 recovered and one died, Baramulla 42 positive cases with 40 active positive and two died; Kupwara has 27 positive cases and all are active cases. “Shopian has 22 positive with 20 active positive, two recovered; Ganderbal has 14 positive cases and all are active positive, Budgam 13 positive cases of which six are active positive with seven recovered cases; Kulgam has five cases and all are active positive; Pulwama three positive cases with two active positive, one recovered; Anantnag district has three positive case and all are active positive,” said the bulletin. Similarly, Jammu has 26 positive cases of whom 22 are active positive and four have recovered, Udhampur 20 positive cases of which 14 are active positive, five recovered and one died, while as Samba district has four positive cases and all are active positive; Rajouri has three positive cases and all three cases have recovered. Meanwhile, Kishtwar has only one positive case who has recovered. Terming COVID-19 as a highly contagious disease which can affect anyone, the advisory through the media bulletin said that for protection against this disease, people are requested to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures. People are advised to take basic precautions for personal hygiene; frequent hand washing with soap & water; observing coughing & sneezing etiquettes and wearing mask or face cover while moving out of their homes. “Similarly, people are advised that when going for essential grocery shopping, keep at least 2 metre distance from others and avoid touching eyes, mouth and nose. If possible, sanitize the handles of shopping trolleys or baskets before shopping. Once home, wash your hands thoroughly and also after handling and storing your purchased products,” said the bulletin. Stressing on the need to avoid self-medication, the advisory urged people not to consume Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) medicine without medical advice as it may have adverse effects on health. HCQ is a prescription medicine and its sale is totally prohibited without a valid prescription by a doctor. |
